As America spread west, Cincinnati became one of the first inland boomtowns. In 1790, the settlement’s original name of Losantiville was changed to Cincinnati in honor of the Society of Cincinnati’s role in the Revolutionary War. Known as the “City of Seven Hills,” downtown Cincinnati is surrounded by a crescent of hillside neighborhoods: Mount Adams, Walnut Hills, Mount Auburn, Vine Street Hill, College Hill, Fairmount and Price Hill. Recognized as an insurance and financial center, Cincinnati is home to many major corporations including: Great American Insurance Company, Western & Southern Financial Group, Fifth Third Bank, Kroger Company, Macy’s Inc, and Procter & Gamble. The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) is one of the fastest growing U.S. airports, serving 120 cities with nearly 500 flights per day, including non-stop flights to Paris, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Rome. Amtrak’s also provides rail service to the city. Cincinnati transportation is provided by taxis, major rental car agencies and two public bus routes. The Metro runs throughout the city and suburbs and The Tank provides service between Northern Kentucky communities and downtown Cincinnati.
